birthday cupcakes

I baked strawberry cupcakes for Zoey's birthday party celebration at school tomorrow.  Since her birthday is in the summer she gets to celebrate a bit early with her classmates.  I had just enough in my batch for her classmates, teacher and for the neighbor kids so I didn't even get to test one but I have been told that they are pretty tasty.  :)

Zoey's had a friend over since early this morning...while I was baking the girls were busy in their make-shift bunk bed fort.  They've been keeping busy all day with playing Barbie's, having a scavenger hunt outdoors and now they are having a meeting in the teepee in the backyard.  I love seeing her so deeply involved in play.

Hope your Memorial Day was a special one and that you took time out to remember what it is that truly matters the most on this day.

Cocoa Daisy Layouts for June

5.28.2011
DSC00028

Zoey recently got an American Girl doll from her grandmother and watching her open it was just the most precious thing ever. She was pretty much in awe I think. She loves playing with it and it's pretty much been by her side since coming out of the box.

DSC00025

I love how this layout came together. I used to enlarged photos and trimmed them and put them together to give them a seamless look. I used some word stickers and the pinwheel embellishment directly on the photos to cover up some of the other girls hands and arms so that the focus remained to be just Zoey. I really like how this layout came together.

I loved this photo so much...she was outside playing and was so genuinely happy when I took this photo. It was sprinkling just ever so slightly. Makes me smile. :)

The second that I saw that I got that adorable little ice cream sundae embellishment in my kit I knew I was going to use these photos in a layout with it. We had gone out for chinese but for dessert she had ice cream. She was so animated and silly too in these photos...these photos not only make me smile but they make me laugh!

This Weekend : Fairy House Building

5.22.2011
Fairy House Building

It's been a full weekend for us here.  Yesterday consisted of Zoey and I heading out of town for a special "girl's shopping day" since it was rainy and grey.  Today however Zoey has been busy with a neighbor friend building a fairy house in the back yard.  They have a special fairy club in which they write letters and draw pictures for the fairies, they dress up as fairies and build homes and leave little gifts for the fairies outdoors.  It's pretty special to watch.

Zoey's teepee is acting as the current meeting place for the fairy club to hold it's special meetings.  The neighbor friend's little brother was trying to get in but apparently didn't make the cut to be included in on the fairy club's agenda.

Such fun to be a little girl that believes in things like fairies...

A New Addition to the Family

5.18.2011
DSC00049

Ethan's parents were here last weekend for Zoey's ballet recital and they brought with them a very special Christmas present for Zoey (we were unable to get together due to illness in the family during the actual holidays this past year). An American Girl doll now is very much a part of our every day life. She wakes up with Zoey in the morning and we have to get her dressed and brush her hair right along with the Zoester. After breakfast and cartoons she goes to school with Zoey (riding alongside in the car) and then comes home and plays for a bit and then after dinner she changes for bed with Zoey. The other night I watched her in bed fussing over fixing her blankets over and over until it was just right for both her and her doll both. I have to make a slight confession here too...I've brushed the doll's hair a couple of times and have offered to "style" it for Zoey. I've also changed her clothes a couple of times without having been officially asked. I think the doll will be very much loved in this home. The doll's name you wonder? Our Zoey has named it Zoey. :)

Spring Ballet Recital 2011

5.16.2011

Zoey's Spring Recital was this weekend for ballet.  Her dance this year was the Swan Lake Waltz.  The costumes this year, while cute, were extremely itchy.  It was a pretty long weekend truth be told (rehearsal was Friday night with two performances on Saturday) but it was still worth it.  The girls were just adorable and they were so fun to watch.  This is Zoey's third year of ballet...it's kind of hard to believe.

It's something that I hope she continues to love and enjoy doing.  At this point in time she has shared with me numerous times that she wants to be a dance teacher when she grows up.  She gets up on that stage and just beams from the inside out.

I had to get a close-up of "the hair" of course.

Here she is with some friends (their dance was from the Princess and the Frog).

Here she is with another dance friend who is also a classmate at school.

In-between shows I had just enough time to take her out for a bite to eat before she had to dance again for the evening performance.  I took her out for chinese and she was being a ham as you can see.

And here she is again...Zoey the ballerina.

We're all recovering from all the excitement here now and am sure will be ready for it to happen all over again when next year's dance season rolls around.

Cocoa Daisy Challenge: Standing in Line

5.13.2011
The challenge that I'm hosting over at the Cocoa Daisy World Bazaar's Crop this weekend is titled, "Standing in Line" and you basicly need to create a layout or card creating lines as the main focus of your project. My layout created for the challenge is pictured below.

My lines were created by the way that I aligned my photos and wrote my journaling.
