Cocoa Daisy's January Kit : Domestic Bliss

12.30.2010
I got my layouts done for this month's kit by the skin of my teeth...Zoey's "flu" actually turned out to be pneumonia so it's been an incredibly long and exhausting last several days to say the least. Enough about that though...looking forward to what lies ahead including January's kit Domestic Bliss. It's a rather fun and homey one as well as hopeful (at least getting to create with it made me think of it as being hopeful!).

Gingerbread House

Loved playing with all those adorable chipboard shapes by Maya Road...there are so many included that you could do several different projects using them!

Every Day Play...

Have I mentioned how much I love using my Martha Stewart Circle Cutter before? If not, (and I am pretty sure that I have), I totally and completely do! :)

Milestones Ahead...

I also love the little wooden bingo number circles that I used in the above layout. The numbers just happened to be perfect for a layout on milestone ages in my opinion.

Wonderful Winter

Another fantastic kit that I get to play with this month courtesy Cocoa Daisy! I have a ton more left of my kit so stay tuned for some more projects to come your way using this one...it's lovely!

From All of Us Here...

We had a wonderful morning of waffles and fresh fruit, some special coffee for Ethan and I and took our time opening gifts from one another and of course some from Santa and then about 2 hours later Zoey was in bed with a fever, chills, sore throat and a nasty cough...and has stayed there ever since.  Disappointment is in her heart I'm afraid...it's never fun to be sick at Christmastime.  Hoping it passes quickly and doesn't decide to make any other stops along the way.

Wishing you a wonderful and healthy holiday!

Teacher Gift Idea : Clothespin Wreath w/Blank Note Cards

12.23.2010
Clothespin Wreath - Teacher Gift Idea

I had some fun coming up with this project for Cocoa Daisy's 12 Days of Christmas Projects...I was originally thinking it would hold holiday cards but thought that it would make a perfect teacher gift if I included handmade blank note cards instead!  Now that the gift has been given to Zoey's teacher I thought I'd share the project with you here.  It can be changed up to fit the individual that you are giving it to just by changing the patterned papers and embellishments that you use.

To create this functional wreath you will need the following:

chipboard circle (cut large enough for clothespins to be adhered to)
kraft knife (to cut out smaller circle in center of large circle)
small plate (to trace the center circle)
at least 15 clothespins
patterned papers
embellishments
ink
ribbon
hot glue gun
favorite adhesive

Instructions:

1. cut a smaller circle out from the center of your larger circle using a small dessert plate and your kraft knife
2. adhere patterned paper to the front of your chipboard circle and trim the edges along the edges with your kraft knife
3. adhere patterned paper to the front of all your clothespins and ink the edges of your clothespins
4. using your hot glue gun, attach your clothespins to your wreath
5. embellish with flowers, buttons or other fun things!
6. attach ribbon to the top of your wreath and you are done!

The Nutcracker : 2010

12.19.2010
DSC09979

Zoey was in the Nutcracker this weekend.  This was her third year performing in the Nutcracker so we knew the routine well.  This year she was a party guest and thus had quite a bit of time on stage which was fun.  It was an eventful evening to say the least with the girls in Zoey's group taking turns breaking down in tears.  To be fair it had been a long day (it was on Friday and rehearsal started after school and ran right up to the performance with a teeny break to eat dinner at the practice) and I think that most of the mother's volunteering were on the brink of their very own breakdown themselves but we all survived nicely and for the performance there were no tears to be found, only smiles.

I love that one of Zoey's bloomer legs is up and the other down...that is so her!  At intermission I went backstage to see if she wanted to come out and sit with us to watch the remainder of the performance and I couldn't find her...she was hiding underneath one of the risers with her hair all static, dust covering her skirt and all smiles and no, she did not want to come and join us...she was too busy playing tag with some of the other fashionable ladies!

As always, it was a nice way to get into the holiday swing of things and I was so very proud to be her mama watching her up there dancing away!

Ornament Gift Bag

Here's a quick Make-N-Take that I created for the Cocoa Daisy blog awhile back...super easy and fun and it's a design that you could easily re-create on a card or a layout too.  For the complete step-by-step tutorial with photos, go here.

Holiday Tinsel Tree

Holiday Tinsel Tree
I have always wanted to make one of these fun trees and finally just did it this weekend!  I adhered patterned paper to a chipboard cone and glued mica flakes (available in the Cocoa Daisy store) and then had some fun adorning my tree with brads, blooms, tinsel and some pearl tipped pins.  Super fun and easy too...love how classy it turned out.  I want to make more now in different sizes to create a little cluster arrangement for the living room!

25 Days : My December Daily Album for 2010

12.05.2010
December Daily : 2010

I finished creating my album (actually it was finished right after Thanksgiving...I just didn't have the time to post it here until now) for this year and wanted to share it with you!  I used the Making Memories chipboard album (8 x 8 inches) from their Noteworthy collection and painted it using Manila colored paint.  I stamped along the edge of my album cover using holiday stamps by Hero Arts and added some fun ribbons and trims from my Cocoa Daisy kits.  The chipboard letters are by Pink Paislee.  It's kind of hard to tell from the photos but I also used some Stickles glitter glue on the cover as well.

December Daily : 2010

I really love my album this year!!  I love that there is a mix of blues, creams and browns along with some of the brighter and more traditional colors associated with the holidays.

I kept my inside pages pretty basic so that I can add more to them once the pictures go in.

Last year I didn't have the time to get to this project so I'm tickled that I'm done and ready to go for this year.  Hooray for finished projects!

We Were Laughing Out Loud...

12.04.2010
and I'd be lying if I said that there weren't tears in our eyes. Zoey and I went to see the movie Tangled this afternoon at our local cinema and it was worth every penny.

One of my favorite parts of getting to be Zoey's mama is getting to have the excuse of getting to go to Princess (and other girly) movies with her...there, I said it. :) I'm a complete and hopeless romantic and a wee bit cheesy at times too. This will definitely be a movie that will be added to our video library once it comes out on DVD. I think it's my favorite Princess movie by Disney to date (Zoey said it was hers too by the way).

I am Completely Aware That You Can See Grass in These Pictures...

upon coming home from traveling over Thanksgiving break we were surprised with some snow here at home.

First Time on Skis!

It was just a bit but enough for Zoey to go out and play a bit. I was out with her in the yard and went in the garage and tried on my skis just for fun and she then asked to try on hers! She was given a set of skis, boots and poles awhile back from a family friend and this was the first time that she had shown any interest in them whatsoever so I jumped at the chance and dug them out of the closet.

First Time on Skis!

She loves them!! She didn't want to come in from making loops in the yard and made me promise that she could do it again the next day which we of course did.

First Time on Skis!

First Time on Skis!

I'm so excited that this may turn out to be another thing that we can do as a family now...hooray for hand-me-down skis, agreeable little girls and just enough snow!!
