Lately...

6.13.2009
  • We've been taking Zoey out to ride her new big girl bike every chance the weather and our schedules will allow...and I've vowed to walk laps on the track while she bikes.

  • We've been catching up on enjoying some movies...Zoey enjoyed The Fox and the Child (actually pretended to be a fox for the entire next day after watching it) and Ethan and I thought Gran Torino was nothing short of genius. Incredible movie, but I love Clint Eastwood so perhaps I'm a tad bit biased.

  • I've been catching up on my reading and brushing up my summer reading list. I just finished up The Double Bind by Chris Bohjalian and loved it. Love his writing period. Right now I am reading Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert. I started reading this book last year when it seemed liked everyone in the world was reading it and for whatever reason I just could not get into it, this time around however, I am thoroughly enjoying it. My summer "wish" list of reading includes The Ten Year Nap by Meg Wolitzer, The Blue Sweater by Jacqueline Novogratz, Home Repair by Liz Rosenberg, The Backyard Homestead by Carleen Madigan and The Mighty Queens of Freeville by Amy Dickinson, Shelter Me by Juliette Fay, The Help by Kathryn Stockett, and The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein.
  • We're planning for Zoey's birthday party with a little help from Martha. I found a tutorial on her site to make flower decorations from tissue paper and I cannot stop making them. These are the most awesome things ever! I've made several in pink, red and orange.

  • I think I've finalized my idea for my upcoming Scrapbooking for Kids workshop that I will be having at an area public library...just waiting to get some input from the library director before proceeding.
  • Wishing to purchase this sweet little print:

it reminds me of where it is that Ethan and I were married. I love it. I also love this one, this one and this one cracks me up and just makes me smile.

  • I got a new haircut and it's super duper short, and I love it. For some reason a new cut always adds a little bounce to my step.

  • Ethan got a little bonus from work and got me a bike. (For those that are regular readers of my blog you might remember a while back when my bike was stolen). Now when Zoey truly masters the "big girl bike we can go for some family rides on the trails. Absolutely cannot wait for this.

Print is available for purchase on Etsy here.

I read this the other day and just had to pass it on...

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE enough money within her control to move out and rent a place of her own even if she never wants to or needs to...

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE something perfect to wear if the employer or date of her dreams wants to see her in an hour...

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE a youth she's content to leave behind.

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE a past juicy enough that she's looking forward to retelling it in her old age....

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE a set of screwdrivers, a cordless drill, and a black lace bra...

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE one friend who always makes her laugh ... and one who lets her cry...

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE a good piece of furniture not previously owned by anyone else in her family...

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE eight matching plates, wine glasses with stems, and a recipe for a meal that will make her guests feel honored.

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE a feeling of control over her destiny...

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW how to fall in love without losing herself...

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW how to quit a job, break up with a lover, and confront a friend without ruining the friendship...

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW when to try harder ... and when to walk away...

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW that she can't change the length of her calves, the width of her hips, or the nature of her parents...

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW that her childhood may not have been perfect...but its over...

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW what she would and wouldn't do for love...

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW how to live alone ... even if she doesn't like it...

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW whom she can trust, whom she can't,and why she shouldn't take it personally.

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW where to go...be it to her best friend's kitchen table, or a charming inn in the woods...when her soul needs soothing...

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW what she can and can't accomplish in a day... a month...and a year...

  • We're getting ready for a fun week spent with Ethan's family this next week...and thankful that I'll be having a little help from grandma at the big birthday party!

  • I'm reeling over the idea that my dad and little sister may be making a special trip up here this summer to spend a couple of days with us (this will be the first time that my Dad will have been at our new place).
  • I'm just plain old thankful that I'm where I am at right at this moment in this life (even though it looks like Zoey's not going to make it into this seasons swimming lessons Pre-K group...errrrrrrrr!)

And finally...
